Dzongkha Typing Tutor for Bhutanese September 27, 2021

A fast typing speed for sure saves a lot of time when it comes to working on an assignment which requires typing. But how many of us have worked on improving our typing speed? Have you ever asked yourself the following questions? “How fast can I type in English?” “Do I know how to type in Dzongkha?” “How fast can I type in Dzongkha?” I got my laptop in the year 2015 and the first thing which I wanted to do in my laptop was to learn to type fast. I had seen my brother type fast in his laptop without looking at the keyboard. Instead he looked at me, spoke to me and typed simultaneously in a show off. But I found the ability to do that so cool. I wanted myself to be able to do that. So when I asked Google about the techniques to increase my typing speed, several typing tutors appeared on my laptop screen. I needed only one. I downloaded one of the typing tutors and started my typing lessons. Initially, I found it uncomfortable to keep my left index finger at “F” and right in...

When Dzongkha lopon lost his cool May 12, 2013

One day, Subatri and Bunu from my class went to Damphu to participate in the annual regional sports meet. While returning to school after the big event, it occurred to them that they should take something for their classmates from Damphu. So they bought cucumbers for the entire class - 11 science students. They decided that the next day after their arrival in school would be the perfect timing for cucumber party. Most of the students in the class did not have the slightest idea about their plan. On that particular day, the first class started as usual and the Teacher left as soon as the bell rang. Second period was Dzongkha and all of us were waiting for the Lopon. Fifteen minutes past the second period, our Dzongkha Lopon still did not show up. By then, the class started to buzz with myriad conversations. At that point, Subatri and Bunu decided that it was the moment we all needed to seize because recess was too short. They stood up from their chairs, collected two buckets placed behi...

Briefing or Ragging July 28, 2014

I learnt about the existence of “Ragging” as an issue when I bumped into a Bollywood movie titled, “Table No 21.” In simple words, ragging takes place when someone senior in an institution try to abuse, humiliate, or harass a new comer. Ragging is considered a sensitive issue because it is notoriously infamous for leading to serious consequences. Elsewhere, the victims of ragging have died/are dying and the culprits had been/continue to be slapped with fines or even put behind bars depending on the seriousness of the case. I have heard about there being ragging culture in some institutes in Bhutan too and even experienced one myself when I was in College. I was not ordered to unclothe myself or beaten by seniors like the way ragging case has been reported elsewhere. Fingers crossed, I do not think people have died due to ragging in Bhutan. Nonetheless, we cannot have the issue take root in a country like ours. To describe ragging through my personal lens, it took place in four steps....

Too early to sleep (September 18, 2021)

Thousand thoughts and thousand ideas sparkles Silently in the blackness of the night Lights are off and eyelids are down But how can you sleep When you are submerged in thoughts, so deep?   You don’t see it coming or leaving It just pops up and vanishes on its own accord It reminds you, scolds you and haunts you No unlived dreams before the final sleep You got to finish what you started.   With umpteen splendid dreams of yesteryears Countless random scribbles on empty pages Numerous crumpled paper burnt to ashes Multitude of unfinished works in life Don’t you think it is too early to sleep?   No mistaking breathing for living How long can one ignore the truth? You cannot expect a voyage of life without storm But the only thing stopping you is you Remember, you are your best friend or greatest enemy.   You don’t have to leap but never quit Take baby steps and experiment with your life If you dare ...

My Chaychay Days July 7, 2015

I do not remember most part of my childhood days and to make the situation worst there is only one photo from my childhood which I have preserved with utmost care till now. In spite of not having many photos during my childhood to freeze time, I haven’t lost some of the best memories during those times. I like to call those memories “My Chaychay days.”   And those are the memories which always brings a smile on my face for it includes everyone in my family. How Mama and Papa tamed us The quintessential childhood days in the late 1990s for a kid from middle class family looked something like this. Mobile phones had not made it into our country that time. So some of the games we used to play were marble game, card game, Khopi (coin game), cricket, Goli Danda (similar to cricket), dart game (dart made of compass), bala kuti, catapult game, hide and seek game, seven stone games among others. There were so many games we could play to keep ourselves busy. At night I would sneak away ...

Unconventional birthday celebration 3rd June, 2013

I do not remember the exact time when I started to mark the date on which I was born. Probably, it happened when I was in high school. Having celebrated my own birthday and the birthday of my friends over the years, I have made few general observations during my School and College days. A typical birthday celebration in a boarding School looks something like this. By the time clock strikes 12 midnight, you will start to receive messages from your well-wishers. Remember, this applies only if you have a girlfriend, boyfriend or someone close to you in high school because they want to be the first one to wish you. Rest of the birthday wishes will follow when you distribute sweets in your class. The most common birthday gift you receive will be a Cup or a Photo album along with a wishing card. Birthday celebrations in College are similar but not same with extra features. When clock strikes 12 midnight, your close friends will come to your room, pull your blanket to startle you with an el...

Orange Coloured Uniform (Specialized Desuup training 42nd Batch)

As someone wisely said, “The purpose of life is life of purpose” there must be a purpose behind everything one opts to do in life. The decision to participate in the 42 nd specialized Desuup training is not an exception. It has been my lifetime dream to be a part of something so noble like the Desuup organization which is being spearheaded by His Majesty himself. There is not an iota of doubt about the faith His Majesty has on the orange colored individuals and the work they are doing for the betterment of society. I am a man who believes in the growth and development of the self before we help others because we cannot help the society if we cannot help ourselves. Moreover, being a son of a soldier, I have always desired to experience a part of my father’s life. Thus, with these anticipations I applied for the program. The Desuup training has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. To jot down some of the learning experiences amongst others, this particular program ha...
